Today I got together with 2 of my best friends from home, Jeni and Stacey and their husbands and kids. It was so much fun to see them again. I miss them alot. They all came over and we just hung out for awhile, It is fun to see everyone's kids. We missed you Joma. Hopefully we can see you this trip.

We had a wonderful Christmas. David loved his trainset and had fun opening his stuff. We all got spoiled this year. It's sad to think that Christmas is over already.

Home for Christmas

We have arrived in Calgary. We left rexburg Friday afternoon and overnighted in Great Falls. We went swimming and had a great sleep. We continued the rest of our drive on Saturday morning and arrived in Calgary at about 4:00 yesterday afternoon. The kids did great! Breaking the trip into 2 days is so easy. David watched his movies and Sadie slept alot. It is so nice to be home. David is loving being here with Bow (the dog) and Sadie is enjoying all the new faces. I will post some pictures soon. Merry Christmas everyone!

We are so excited for Christmas. I still have to finish David's shopping, I need to get into Toys R US one of these days. Mike is still working and is coming home frozen every night, what a hard worker. He is looking forward to relaxing in Calgary, eating good food, and going to the hot springs in Banff... It is still freezing here, we stay inside most of the time. David and I have gotten creative when it comes to keeping busy, his new favorite is to build forts and play hide and seek. (A game that doesn't last too long, his giggles give him away pretty fast)

Lights at Temple Square

This weekend we took a trip to Utah. We left on Saturday and went up to a mountain condo. We had a great time relaxing and getting away from Rexburg for a few days. On Sunday we drove to Salt Lake to look at the beautiful lights at temple square. I had never seen them before and they were amazing. It was freezing cold though... On Monday we went shopping and surprisingly we got alot done even though we did have Sadie and David. They were great shoppers. I am really looking forward to the 10 hour drive home to Calgary with them... just kidding. I think we are going to break the trip up in 2 days, and hopefully they will sleep alot of the way. We returned to alot of snow in Rexburg and chilly temperatures. Today will be a quiet day of cleaning and doing laundry and staying inside.

Family Picture....with Santa

This week has flown by, I can't believe Christmas is three weeks away! Yesterday I had the brilliant idea of taking a family trip into Idaho Falls to do some Christmas shopping and see Santa. Well with only 1 mall within a 100 mile radius you can imagine how busy it would be on a Saturday before Christmas. And also you can imagine how much fun it is to shop with a 2 year old.... It was comical however. We managed to buy 1 present, I am going to do the rest of my shopping online. We did see Santa as you can see from the photo. David was so excited to see him, until he got close, and then freaked out. So Mike and I got to be in the picture.... Sadie certainly enjoyed sitting on Santa's lap, she loved all that beard hair to play with and grab!

We had a great Thanksgiving. We went up to the Cabin to relax. We had a great time with the fam and had some great food. Now that we are home it is time to get ready for Christmas, the tree is up and the house is decorated. I can't wait for Christmas to come!

The Jolly Jump

Today we broke out the good old jolly jumper, Sadie really enjoyed it, she didn't really jump, she just hung there. David was dying to get in himself, he kept saying, "Ok, David's turn" Poor little guy, I kept telling him he was too big, but he was persistant. I finally distracted him by letting him jump on the bed with me.
All smiles. David was a good sport, he was jumping on the ground infront of her trying to show her what to do... I think Sadie and David are both feeling better, still mucusy and stuffed up. I know David is dying to go outside, but I think the cold would be bad for his lungs. We have been keeping busy reading, coloring, doing play-doh, watching movies and playing hide and go seek.

Tis the Season..... for RSV

Both my poor little kiddies have RSV. David has had a cold since Saturday and on Monday I took him in to discover that it is actually RSV. Sadie was doing good until Monday and now she has RSV..

Illness begins most frequently with fever, runny nose, cough, and sometimes wheezing. Most children recover from illness in 8 to 15 days. RSV is highly contagious, and can be spread through droplets containing the virus when a person coughs or sneezes. The virus can also live on surfaces such as countertops or doorknobs, and on hands and clothing. RSV can be easily spread when a person touches an object or surface contaminated with the virus. The infection can spread rapidly through schools and child-care centers. Infants often get it when older kids carry the virus home from school and pass it to them. Almost all kids are infected with RSV at least once by the time they are 2 years old.

Sadie and David are both on drops and lots of liquids. They are both doing well, coughing, sneezing and sleeping alot. Poor little things. So be careful with your little kids, some cases require hospitilization.

Ok fine, While my sick kids are napping, I am taking a break from cleaning and I discoverd that Jeni has tagged me to write 6 things about myself. Since I have ignored the other 3 tags that I have gotten, I thought I'd better do it. It was harder than I thought, but here are 6 things about me...

1. I am obsessed with Lipgloss/lipstick and eyebrows. Many proabably know this.... but I have well over 100 lippy's. Everytime I go to Walmart, or wherever lippy is sold I will buy one. I probably have duplicates even. Also eyebrows are a big deal, I have gone through many eyebrow stages, Pencil thin in gr. 12, super thick in college, just right and then I overpluck and compensate by over-growing them in.... what can you do???

2. I really love to cook. Before I had kids, I would spend hours cooking yummy new recipes for Mike, I would even go to Barnes and Knobles and read cookbooks. Having 2 young kids has definatly put a damper on my cooking styles. I still do make dinner every night, but it is usually pretty dull and takes as little time as possible.

3. I miss Calgary. I miss my family, friends, resturants, shopping, hanging out with Hill, rollerblading, 17th Ave, the Gully, My old brown truck, Kensington, the C-train, Market Mall, I even really miss Bowie.

4. I love Idaho.... Yes I do miss Calgary very much, but in the 6 years that I have lived in Rexburg I have grown to love it here. There is so much to do, wakeboarding, snowmaching, mountain climbing, and many more outdoor activities. I like that I feel safe all the time, Mike's family is close, I like that there is no traffic, I love the University. It is a great place to have a family.

5. I am truely an outdoorsy girl, I love being outside. All summer we'd walk, go to the park, and play. It will be a long winter being inside all the time. I would Love to go for big long walks everynight, I think I owe this to my dad who would always take us for walks and take us to play outside.

6. I am a remote control hog. If we are watching TV at night or somthing, and MIke is holding the remote it drives me crazy, even if we are watching the show that I want to watch... Yes, this is a little bit possesive of me I know, but Mike being the wonderful husband he is will usually fork over the remote.

We are having bad luck this fall with sickness. David sounds like a 20 year old, his voice is so deep. He is so stuffed up and can hardly breathe. His nose is runny and of course he is way more whiney and clingy. All day he says to me "hold me like a baby" so this picture is pretty much what I have been doing the past 2 days.. And today Mike isn't feeling very well either, he has had a terrible headache and just doesn't feel right....

Soup Anyone?

We have been loving the nice weather, I haven't even needed a coat the past few days. We have been going on lots of walks and have been spending time at the park whenever it isn't nap time. The time change has thrown David off schedule, but I am determined to get him back to his
3 1/2 hour naps. I made some pumpkin soup the other day, it was pretty good if you like pumpkin. It is someone's version of the pumpkin soup from 'Au Bon Pain' Here is the recipe...



Ingredients:

2 tablespoon butter
1 cup onion, chopped
1 carrot diced
1 celery stalk diced
1 red pepper diced
3 tablespoons flour
1 1/2 teaspoon curry powder
1 teaspoon cumin
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
3 garlic cloves, crushed
1 cup peeled and cubed sweet potato
1 chopped apple (I used a McIntosh)
1 teaspoon salt
pepper
2 teaspoons oregano
32 oz. cans of low sodium chicken broth
1 15 oz. can of pumpkin
2 cups milk
juice from 1/2 of a fresh lime

Directions:

1. Melt butter in a Dutch oven or large suacepan over medium-high heat. Saute carrot, celery, red pepper and onion for 3-4 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Then add flour, curry, oregano, garlic, cumin and nutmeg and saute for 1 minute. 2. Add sweet potato, apple, salt, chicken broth and pumpkin and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer, partially covered for about 20-25 minutes or until sweet potatoes are cooked through and softened. Remove from heat and let stand for 10 minutes to cool. 3. Place mixture in a blender and process until smooth. (I used a hand held blender). 4. Raise heat to medium then stir in milk and cook for 5 minutes or until soup is heated through. 5. Remove from heat and add lime juice. Season more to taste.

Last night we went to a halloween costume party at the clubhouse. It was so much fun, everyone brought a soup or a salad (I brought a pumpkin soup) and there were tons of treats and games. The best part was that everyone dressed up. We had pirates, Shrek's, Doctors, Batman and Robin, Monsters, A whoppi cushion, peacock, hippo, and many more

Mike had a great costume, he wore his dad's old suit, which was super tight and he had his big afro.

Tonight I think we are going to trick or treat around our neighborhood and then go down to Mike's Grandma's house in Idaho Falls. I love halloween and David learned how to say "trick or treat" I am trying to get him to nap right now, but I keep hear banging noises from upstairs, I think he is too excited to sleep.

Today is our five year anniversary. I can't believe how fast time flies. We have accomplished so much in that time, bought a townhouse, both graduated university, 2 kids, and so many fun memories. Mike is the most patient, kind, supportive and loving husband and dad. He works so hard for our family and takes such good care of us! I can't wait to see what the next five years holds for us.

On a lesser note, we have had a rough week, I woke up on Monday with the flu. Luckily a friend took David all morning and both Sadie and David had great naps that afternoon. Then Tuesday David woke up from his nap saying that his tummy had owies. 20 minutes later I was cleaning up throw up. Yuk. Luckily it was only a 24 hour bug, but I hope Mike and Sadie don't get it. I spent all day yesterday cleaning and disinfecting.

a cold day

Today is very cold, David and I went for a walk for about 5 minutes and then we had to come and warm up. Mike is fixing the washing machine this morning, (just what he wanted to do on his Saturday) and Sadie is napping. We don't have too much planned for today, we might go to the pool and sit in the hot tub later. We had a ward halloween gathering last night, now that we are on the activities committe we thought we'd better go. For a ward with 650 people in it, only about 40 went.
