A little Lava

I have been wanting to get out or Rexburg for a little day trip for awhile. We were planning on going to the Jackson leisure center pool yesterday, but found out that the pool was closed for resurfacing. So we decided to make a little trip to LAVA HOT SPRINGS! I had only been to Lava once, a long time ago so I was pretty excited. First we went to the indoor pool, it had a few diving boards and a climbing wall, which the babes loved. After that we went to the hot pools. We stayed mostly in the "coolest" of the pools
Hill and Will met us there! I love having my sis around!

On the way home of course the kids were totally wiped out from no naps and being in the hot water. Cali woke up just in time for a stop a Cafe Rio, I could eat there on a daily basis! And we treated ourselves to a little yogurt at the orange leaf which was so good. We had a lovely day!

The passing of my Pappa

Pappa Work passed away last night. He had been dealing with leukemia, blood complications and infections in his legs for the past 6 months. He lived a wonderful life and I have so many fond memories of him. He loved the outdoors, hiking, swimming, exercise, good food, natural healing, his family and life in general. He will be greatly missed, but I am so happy he is no longer having to deal with his failing body anymore. We got the chance to see him in January for the last time and I am so grateful for our last visit. I felt his love for me every time I was around him. He was a wonderful man.

A little Yum Yum

Whole Wheat Yogurt Pancakes
When I used to make pancakes they were filled with butter, sugar, sour cream, white flour etc.... However now when I make pancakes they are much healthier and are so good! They don't have any sugar, fat or white flour. My kids love them and they are very easy.

My personal fav way to eat these is with a little nutella smeared on with strawberries or bananas, an egg or two and a smoothie. YUM.

whole wheat yogurt pancakes
1 cup milk
1 egg
1/2 cup good vanilla yogurt
1 tsp vanilla

1 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder

Combine wet. Combine dry. Add together and cook on your griddle.

top ten favs of winter

There is nothing too exciting going on in our lives at the moment. No new pictures to post, no exciting events to document... We usually hibernate inside our house with the occasional outing to walmart, the grocery store or to a friends house. So I have decided to share some favorite products that I have discovered this winter.
1. McCormick Recipe Inspirations
I discovered this interesting little spice package at the grocery store one day while I was trying to figure out what to make for dinner. These are great because they contain all the spices you need, which is nice because to buy a particular spice for a recipe that you don't often use can get expensive, I also like these because on the back it tells you what other ingredients that you will need, making my grocery shopping experience very easy. I have tried 3 or 4 of varieties of these and they have all been really good. I bought mine on sale 5 of them for $3.
2. Pero

I used to love to drink Cafe-Lib and Postum back in Canada, but I have not found those things here, but I think this is pretty much the same. Pero is made of Barley, Chicory and Rye. Mike and I regularly drink a hot drink at night together, (yes that makes us sound kinda old and boring I know.....)We usually have either a peppermint tea or a hot lemon and honey drink, and now we have another option. Pero tastes very good with cream and sugar in it. It kinda tastes like coffee, so if that's not your 'cup of tea' this drink would not be for you....
3. Sonia Kashuk Beautifying Blush This is my favorite blush, I love all sonia kashuk stuff, (only found at Target) My shade is called FLAMINGO, which is a pretty baby dollish bright pink. This stuff blends well, has no shimmer or glitter and is only $ 7 or 8 dollars.
4. Power Balance Bands

My friend got me hooked on these. I had seen them on TV, and thought "NO WAY, major Scam" but she did the tests on me, and her brother sells them for pretty cheap and I was a believer. My friend told me that she sleeps so much better while wearing these bands, so I got one, and the first night I slept SO great. I don't know if it was all in my head but I have been sleeping very good since wearing these. However, as I was searching the internet for a picture of the Power Balance Bands, I came across many articles about the 'Power Balance Scam' and how the company has even come out and said that there is nothing scientific in theses bands and they are a hoax.... So I don't know what to think now, I have been sleeping well lately, I don't know if I will continue to contribute this to the bands or not....
5. L'Oreal Elnett Satin Hairspray
I love this hairspray. Definatly one of the best. When you spray it on it doesn't make your hair crunchy at all, it provides body and hold while feeling totally natural. I go through bottles of this stuff...
6. Jojoba Oil
I recently discovered Jojoba oil. I have seen several articles about the wonderful claims about this stuff, so I picked some up at my local health food store. This winter has been SO cold, which has made my hair and skin feel SO DRY. I have been adding a few drops of this oil to my moisturizer and hair products. I know what you may be thinking, putting OIL on your face would be a BAD idea, especially if you have already oily and difficult skin like mine, but I have found that it actually helps regulate oil production, and makes your skin and hair so healthy. Google it, try it, you will love it!
7. Wide leg Bell- bottomish jeans
Just when I thought I had mastered the skinny jean, Wide leg jeans are back in... And I know Mike couldn't be happier, (he hates my skinny's) I am very happy about this returning trend, as I think a dark wash wider leg jean looks much more flattering on most people. I have a few pairs of wide leg jeans in my closet and I think they look best with a tall chunky heel. I have had my eye on these jeans pictured above from Gap, so if you are sick of the skinny jean trend, try these... Although Skinny jeans are necessary for wearing cute tall boot... which leads me to my next fav...
8. Eric Michaels Vogue Over the Knee Boots
I have been searching for a pair of Cognac colored, leather, over the knee boots for a long time. Endless.com delivered just what I wanted. Some Christmas money was used to buy these boots on a GREAT sale. I even took the time to write a review on the website, that is how much I like them. They are perfect and I wear them all the time, and get compliments every time.
9. Revlon Colorburst Lipstick
I really do enjoy a little lipstick every once in awhile. Well actually I enjoy lipstick all the time, (except when I have it on my teeth) This is great lipstick, my shade is 008 CANDY PINK, which is a very bubbly gummy perfect bright pink. I realize this shade might not be for everyone, but there are plenty of gorgeous 'flavors' to try ...This lipstick is creamy, a little shiny, and slightly opaque. One of the best drugstore, and trust me, I have tried enough to know.
10. Coa-Coa Energy Bars
My mom gave me this recipe long ago and I had forgotten about them until she posted them on her recipe blog (check out chews2bhealthy.blogspot.com) I make these weekly and my family LOVES them. They are somewhat good for you and are easy to make.

3/4 cup Peanut Butter
3/4 cup honey
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup coa coa
1 1/2 cup oatmeal (not instant)
1 1/4 cup rise crispies
1 cup dried fruit (I like craisins and cut up prunes)
1 cup chopped nuts (almonds or peanuts or both)
In a pot combine the first 4 ingredients, cook over medium heat for about 5 mins stirring often. (you don't want to cook too long, they get really hard if you do) Remove from heat and stir in other ingredients, press into a 9 by 13 pan and let cool. They are quite tasty.
